Bentley Science Hall

Vermont State University, Johnson Campus

Johnson State College, now Vermont State University, Johnson campus, chose Freeman French Freeman to renovate Bentley Hall, home to the Departments of Mathematics and Environmental and Health Sciences. The three-story building includes a 200-seat lecture hall, an interactive television studio, and laboratories for biology, chemistry, physical sciences and geographic information systems.

The project involved complete renovations to three teaching labs, creating two new labs from existing classroom and storage spaces, and re-configuring faculty offices and common spaces. The project also added new program spaces by removing an existing staircase to make way for a glassed-in meeting room on the main floor and a student lounge on the second floor. Existing emergency exits, staircases, and doors were also upgraded to meet modern codes.
