Visual Arts Center
Vermont State University, Johnson Campus
The new Visual Arts Center at the Johnson campus of Vermont State University combines a top-to-bottom renovation of the existing facility along with 4,700 square-feet of newly constructed space. The project represents the first new construction at VTSU-Johnson in 14 years and highlights the growing importance of the arts, where one in nine students majors in fine arts.
The building houses multiple studios for painting, print making, ceramics, sculpture, woodworking and photography; a computer lab; faculty and staff offices; and a quiet room for focused study. As part of the college’s effort to make the center a community gathering place, the building also includes two public art galleries and a dedicated community art room.
On the outside, the building presents a contemporary twist on Vermont’s vernacular architectural styles. On the inside, the building is thoroughly modern with state-of-the-art equipment, lighting, and mechanical systems.
