Mack Hall

Norwich University

Mack Hall is the new home of the School of Business and Management and the Computer Security and Information Assurance (CSIA) program at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont.

The building contains a mix of traditional lecture halls, flexible spaces for active learning, and high-tech classrooms for the university’s cyber security programs. Generous open spaces throughout the building feature both digital tools and conventional whiteboards to facilitate group study and learning.

A 388-seat auditorium doubles as both a large lecture hall and performing arts venue. Lighting, seating, and acoustics were designed to meet the needs of world-class concert and speaking tours. Back-of-house amenities include changing rooms and storage areas for live performances.

The exterior material palette mirrors the campus-wide use of red brick and granite, but the materials are used in innovative ways to showcase the modern program within. The design team worked closely with Efficiency Vermont to maximize environmental benefits and take advantage of government incentives for energy efficiency. LEED Silver (minimum) certification from the U.S. Green building council is anticipated for the 51,300 square-foot building.

The project was a true collaborative effort between Jones Architecture of Salem, Massachusetts and Freeman French Freeman, Architect of Record.
