Burnham Field Sports Complex

Dartmouth College

Freeman French Freeman led a multidisciplinary team to create the Burnham Field Sports Complex, named in honor of Alden “Whitey” Burnham, a beloved coach and administrator at Dartmouth College.

The NCAA athletic facility was built in two phases. Phase one includes men’s and women’s locker rooms for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey; public restrooms; a press box; field maintenance building; and an NCAA-approved, natural-turf soccer field with permanent seating for 1,600 spectators. Phase two adds a sports medicine training room, equipment room with laundry, three additional locker rooms, and a multipurpose meeting space.

A landscaped plaza and gateway area welcomes athletes and spectators to the facility and includes gathering space, a rain garden, outdoor seating, a concessions area, and space for tented events.
The ADA accessible stands hold 1,600 spectators and feature an accessible press box with elevator. Highly engineered sound and lighting systems keep the action on the field and out of the adjacent neighborhood.
