Schneider Hall (formerly Webb Hall) sits at the center of the $50M transformation of the College of Liberal Arts and College of Professional Studies at Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont. Renamed after retiring University President Richard Schneider, the 1950s-era classroom building was completely updated with modern and flexible offices and classrooms, all new finishes, and high-efficiency mechanical systems.

But the biggest change at North Hall was the demolition of Dole Auditorium, which was attached to North Hall and adjacent to the newly constructed Mack Hall. Our studies showed that the university was better off putting the auditorium inside Mack Hall, and building a new, historically sensitive façade on North Hall where Dole Auditorium once stood. The result is a better use of space overall, and a new, state-of-the-art auditorium that will serve the university far into the future.

This kind of holistic thinking is part of what made the entire four-building project so successful. It was a truly collaborative effort between Norwich University, Jones Architecture of Salem, MA, and Freeman French Freeman, Architect of Record.
