Vermonters suffering from mental illness have a new place to call home. The River Valley Therapeutic Residence is a new 16-bed inpatient mental health care facility for adults transitioning down from a Level 1 Psychiatric Hospital unit.

The facility creates a home-like atmosphere that is recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and centered on the individual needs of each resident. Each room includes built-in furniture, a full-size bed, a comfortable window seat and en-suite bathroom.

The two residential wings meet at a central core of communal spaces including a teching kitchen, large dining room, two living areas, an art room and a greenhouse.

Located in the Woodside Natural Area, the aptly named River Valley Residence is surrounded by nature on all sides. Front and rear porches allow residents and staff to enjoy the outdoors and reinforce the home-like atmosphere. A secure courtyard features a walking path, gazebo, raised garden beds, and lush green lawns.
